Moreover the last quarter of 2019 saw releases of Khalil Ur Rehman Qamar’s directorial debut Kaaf Kangana and Durj that featured Shamoon Abbasi and Sherry Shah among others.

With multiple films announced and scheduled to release next year, it certainly means that 2020 will be a bigger year for cinema. Featuring industry’s leading actors, the line-up looks promising. With the New Year just a few days away, Instep takes a look at five of the most promising films that will hit cinemas in 2020.

Quaid e Azam Zindabad

Earlier in 2019, filmmakers Nabeel Qureshi and Fizza Ali Meerza announced that they will be releasing two feature films – Quaid e Azam Zindabad and Fatman – in 2020, under the banner of Filmwala Pictures. We already know that Quaid e Azam Zindabad is a patriotic film and will feature two of Pakistan’s most bankable actors, Fahad Mustafa and Mahira Khan. This will be the first time the two will share the big screen. All we know for now is that Quaid e Azam Zindabad follows the story of a notorious cop, essayed by Fahad Mustafa, and is said to be an action-comedy with lots of twists and turns and quick-witted humour. It is scheduled to release on Eid ul Azha 2020 and will be one of the big films to look out for.

London Nahi Jaunga

Another major production to watch out for in 2020 is titled London Nahi Jaunga. Written by Khalil ur Rehman Qamar - whose most recent drama Mera Pass Tum Ho is doing very well in terms of ratings - and directed by Nadeem Baig, who has blockbusters such as Jawani Phir Nahi Ani and Punjab Nahi Jaungi to his credit, the upcoming film will feature Humayun Saeed and Kubra Khan in pivotal roles. Nadeem Baig has confirmed that the film is not a sequel to Punjab Nahi Jaungi and is in fact a completely different story in the same genre. We are anxiously waiting for the team to make an official announcement regarding the cast of the film, which is set to release on Eid ul Azha 2020.

Money Back Guarantee

Directed and written by Faisal Qureshi, who last appeared seen on the big screen in Teefa In Trouble that featured Maya Ali and Ali Zafar, Money Back Guarantee will star heartthrob Fawad Khan. Dubbed as an all-out entertainer, the film has an ensemble cast including former cricketer Wasim Akram and his wife and activist Shaniera Akram, Mikaal Zulfiqar, Gohar Rasheed and Kiran Malik apart from Fawad Khan.

While the much-awaited Fawad and Mahira Khan starrer, The Legend of Maula Jatt, directed by Bilal Lashari, is yet to get a release date, one thing is for sure, Money Back Guarantee is one of the most anticipated movies of 2020.

Zindagi Tamasha

Actor and director Sarmad Khoosat’s upcoming directorial venture, Zindagi Tamasha (internationally known as Circus of Life) is also scheduled for early next year. The film, which is set in Lahore and chronicles the life of a naat khuwaan, had its world premiere earlier this year at the Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) 2019 in South Korea and also won the Kim Ji-seok Award. Though the storyline and plotting have been done by Khoosat himself, the film is written by Nirmal Bano, a fresh graduate from NCA.

Zindagi Tamasha features Samiya Mumtaz, Arif Hassan, Eman Suleman and Ali Kureshi in pivotal roles, while Sarmad will make a cameo in the movie. Khoosat’s sister, Kanwal Khoosat takes the producer’s seat, while the music is composed by band Saakin.

According to the creators, the much anticipated film, which is slated to release in Pakistan on January 24, 2020, “is an intimate portrait of a family as well as a scorching political commentary on little gods on this earth who police our private passions.”

Tich Button

Actress turned producer Urwa Hocane’s upcoming film Tich Button, which marks singer and actor Farhan Saeed’s film debut as well as Feroze Khan’s return to the big screen, is all set to release next year. Recently, the team wrapped up the shooting for the film, which is now in its post production phase. Directed by Qasim Ali Mureed and written by Faiza Iftikhar, Tich Button stars Iman Ali and Sonya Hussyn besides Farhan Saeed and Feroze Khan. The film, according to Urwa, is about love and friendship while it is filled with fun. The four lead actors – Feroze, Farhan, Iman and Sonya – will share screen space for the first time in this upcoming family entertainer which is co-produced by Shooting Star Studio, a joint venture by off-screen couple, Urwa Hocane and Farhan Saeed. While the release date hasn’t been revealed as yet, we are definitely looking forward to the romantic/action film, in which Urwa will make a special appearance.
