A number of drama serials including Dil e Gumshuda, Khaas and Yaariyan among others came to an end recently and it seems like a lot of interesting TV projects are slated to go on air in the coming days. Though most of the ongoing serials tackle some of the most pressing social issues like workplace harassment and sexual assault, there are various forthcoming projects that will explore various genres and themes.

With intriguing teasers of several drama serials having been released, here is all you need to know about 5 projects that will soon hit the small screens.

Tu Mera Junoon

Scheduled to go on-air tonight on Geo Entertainment, Tu Mera Junoon has a unique storyline and the teasers look promising. Featuring Kinza Hashmi, Asad Siddiqui, Noor Hassan and Sana Fakhar in key roles, the upcoming project follows the story of Hayat (essayed by Kinza Hashmi) who is love with Salar (Noor Hassan), while Taimoor (played by Asad Siddiqui) is obsessed with his cousin Hayat. Through the teasers we get to know that Taimoor attacks Hayat on her wedding night. It is a love triangle that depicts our society’s attitudes towards physical beauty. In a recent interview with Instep, Kinza Hashmi shared that she essays the role of a complex and confused girl. “The story revolves around Hayat who is unable to understand what men actually want; one guy claims his love for her, while the other says that he will be loyal to her no matter what. However, both of them lack something.” she said.

Directed by Sami Sani and written by Shabnam Sani, apart from the lead characters, Tu Mera Junoon features Zainab Qayyum (aka ZQ), Saba Faisal and Rashid Farooqui.

To learn more about the project, Instep spoke to Ahsan Khan, who shared that the series is being helmed by Ali Faizan, who has also directed drama serial Qismat. “Bandhay Aik Dor Say is a family drama, which has a bit of romance and emotions involved. In the drama, I essay the character of Umar who is in love with Maheen (played by Ushna Shah) while Hina Altaf will be seen in a negative role,” he said.

Apart from Ahsan, Ushna and Hina, the drama serial boasts of a star cast including Saba Hameed, Samina Ahmed, Noor Hassan, Saba Faisal, and Kamran Jilani.

According to Faysal Qureshi, he will essay the character of a simple man called Rohail, who easily gets manipulated. “It is a family drama and the character Muntaha (played by Faryal Mehmood) is the one who manipulates everyone. The story is about how Muntaha’s conniving ways negatively affect everyone.”

Damsa

Veteran actress and social activist Nadia Jamil is all set to return to the small screen after a hiatus of two years with drama serial Damsa. Written by Asma Nabeel of Khaani fame and directed by Najaf Bilgrami, the drama is produced under Showcase Productions. With intriguing teasers out, Damsa is a socially relevant play that highlights the subject of child trafficking and the kind of abuse and torture a child has to go through after she’s abducted and forced into beggary.

By the looks of the teasers, the drama shows the traumatic story of a mother, Areeja, who is a nurse by profession and the pain she goes through when her daughter, Damsa, (played by Emaan Khan) is kidnapped in front of her eyes and later falls victim to child trafficking.

While Shahood Alvi plays Areeja’s husband in Damsa, Saleem Mairaj portrays the heartless member of a child trafficking ring.

Kashf

Starring singer and actor Junaid Khan alongside Hira Mani, the upcoming drama is called Kashf, which is directed by Danish Nawaz, who has popular drama serials such as Ishq Tamasha and Khaas to his credit. While the storyline is very interesting, according to Junaid Khan, Kashf is Danish Nawaz, Hira Mani and Junaid’s second project together after their hit drama serial Sun Yara in 2017.

Talking to Instep earlier about the project, Junaid Khan revealed, “After Sun Yara expectations are quite high and we all are trying to give our best to produce great content for our viewers.”

He also shared that he is playing the character of Wajdaan, who is madly in love with Kashf. “The intensity of his love is so strong that he is willing to face any difficult situation that comes his way. With Kashf (essayed by Hira Mani) being bound by some rules, she is hesitant to invest in this relationship. But Wajdaan just wants to win her heart no matter what,” said Junaid, adding that the drama has an elaborate cast and will tentatively go on air next month.
