Nehr Ghar’s debut production Laal Kabootar, helmed by director Kamal Khan with music by Taha Malik and cinematography by Mo Azmi, seems to be on a roll. Having been selected as Pakistan’s official entry to the Academy Awards, the film has now fetched the Best Feature Film Award at the Vancouver International South Asian Film Festival 2019 just three days ago.

Director Kamal Khan was present at the ceremony where he received the award on the Closing Night & Awards Ceremony which was held at Surrey, British Columbia.

Starring Mansha Pasha and Ahmed Ali Akbar, a hustling taxi driver, it is a film where Karachi is as much a part of the narrative as the lead characters whose paths cross in strange circumstances.

This is not the first time the film has picked up an award. It has done exceedingly well on the festival circuit, having won the Archana Soy Audience Award for ‘Best Feature Film’ at the Tasveer South Asian Film Festival 2019 in Seattle; Laal Kabootar was screened as an official selection at the Singapore South Asian International Film Festival (2019).

It was also screened at Washington DC South Asian Film Festival 2019 where Ahmed Ali Akbar won Best Actor Male Award for his performance, which was full of conviction and soul.
