Actor and host Hamza Ali Abbasi, currently starring in drama serial Alif and all set to appear in the upcoming high profile Bilal Lashari epic, The Legend of Maula Jatt as the antagonist, in a new video post stated as much.
Hamza will now use his fame, gathered through films like Main Hoon Shahid Afridi, Waar, Parwaaz Hai Junoon and Jawani Phir Nahi Ani and through drama serials like Mann Mayal, Pyarey Afzal and the on air serial Alif – which he signed because of its theme – to talk about religion.
Throughout the video, for a change, he spoke about himself but didn’t pull anyone else down. What was hypocritical though is that Hamza did say he may return after a longer period if a project comes along. But this was expected behavior.
As a liberal who is followed by many, Hamza has the potential to change minds in a myopic, extremely conservative Pakistan.
However, while it is his right to speak his mind as he does on more occasions than memory can place it, taking a shot at awards that had been given to him by various platforms was unnecessary.
Nonetheless, one can always hope that Hamza speaks about religion and spirituality to a nation that is becoming increasingly intolerant.
