Bollywood actor Sunny Deol, who is also a member of the ruling party in India, BJP, and holds a position in Parliament from India’s Gurdaspur district, will attend the inauguration ceremony of Kartarpur Corridor, which will be held today. This corridor will allow Sikhs to cross from India into Pakistan in order to visit one of the religion’s holiest sites.
The news of the actor’s arrival in Pakistan was confirmed by Chief Minister of Punjab, Captain Amarinder Singh. According to Indian news agency ANI Sunny said that “if I won’t go, who will? I’ll definitely go. It is my area and my home.”
Moreover, NDTV reported that apart from Sunny Deol, the first group of Sikh pilgrims includes former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh and Union Ministers Hardeep Puri and Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
Moreover, the 550 pilgrims that are expected to attend the opening ceremony also include former cricketer, Congress leader and Punjab Minister, Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was recently given political clearance to visit the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib by the foreign ministry.
Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will see off the first group of pilgrims who will be welcomed by Prime Minister Imran Khan at the shrine of the founder of Sikhism Guru Nanak at Kartarpur, which is just four kilometers inside Pakistan.
The inauguration ceremonies will be held on both sides of the border today, November 9.
