With weekend finally here, many of us want to curl up on the couch and catch up on our favourite drama serials that are trending on TV or binge-watch some Netflix series. And then there are those who – after a tiring week – want to unwind by stepping out and have some fun.

Afsana Hoee Shaam
This weekend, The Second Floor (T2F) is hosting Afsana Hoee Shaam, a dramatic reading of five original short stories by a slew of contemporary writers. The event, which is going to take place today from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Faraar Gallery, T2F, will feature stories titled Miss Razia, Goonga Gullo, Postmortem Officer, Kunji and Izzatdaar penned by Sameena Nazeer, Jeem Abbasi, Asad Alvi and Begum Masroor Jahan respectively. The ticket is priced at Rs. 400 and will be available at the venue.
Exhibition of Stone Carvings
If you are an art lover, this exhibit is perfect for you. Starting from today (Saturday, November 2), the Exhibition of Stone Carvings will run till Monday (November 4) from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m at Manzar Akbar Hall, Arts Council, Karachi. According to the exhibit’s official Facebook handle, artists Kamran Hamid and Rashid Amin of ProStones have expressed their thoughts and environmental observations through their skill and art of stone carving. “Each piece is meticulously carved by these artists to provoke your thought process and sharpening the critical thinking of the society you live in. Please join us in this wonderful exhibition as it will be for a limited time only.”
Craze’illa Fest
For music enthusiasts, buckle up as a concert called Craze’illa Fest is taking place in Karachi today and features upcoming artists Yashal Shahid and Dj Kantik. However, the highlight of the event is that music group Kashmir – which emerged as the winning band on Pepsi Battle of the Bands in its second season in 2017 – will also be performing. The band, featuring Bilal Ali (Vocals), Usman Siddiqui (Bass), Ali Raza (Piano/Synth), Zair Zaki (Rhythm Guitar), Vais Khan (Lead Guitar) and Shane J. Anthoney (Drums/Percussion), are powerful performers with good songs, so expect an interesting show.
The event is scheduled to take place at the Expo Center, Karachi with tickets priced at Rs 1200.
Theatre play – Ali Baba Chalis Chor
For families with young kids, Ali Baba Chalis Chor, which is based on the famous Arabian tale of the same name, will make a good choice.
In association with BlackBox Productions and collaboration with Green Eye Productions, Ali Baba Chalis Chor premiered in Karachi last week at Arts Council, Karachi. The theatre play was first performed at NAPA’s first children’s theatre festival, Bachpan Ke Rung earlier this year. The popular story has been adapted and directed by Umair Rafiq while it has been narrated by Zain Qureshi. The play will be running for the public at Arts Council Auditorium, Karachi till December 5, 2019. Tickets are available at NAPA, Kababist Shahra-e-Faisal and Cafe Bogie, I.I. Chundrigar Road.
Talking movies
Last month two Pakistani films released including Shamoon Abbasi’s Durj and Sami Khan and Eshal Fayyaz starrer-Kaaf Kangna. Besides those, two Eid-ul-Azha releases – Mohammad Ehteshamuddin’s Superstar, featuring Mahira Khan and Bilal Ashraf in lead roles and Asim Raza’s second feature film, Parey Hut Love are still going strong at the box office. So you have plenty of options to choose from.
In addition, a few Hollywood films including Joker, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, Countdown, Zombieland: Double Tap and the recently released (i.e. November 1) Terminator: Dark Fate are also running in local cinemas.
