Box office queen Mehwish Hayat, who last appeared in Wajahat Rauf’s Chhalawa, has been actively engaged in philanthropic work - aside from her acting projects. The latest effort in this direction is her association with the cause of raising awareness on rights of the Girl Child. On account of International Day of the Girl Child, that falls on October 11 (yesterday) every year, the actress has been appointed as the Goodwill Ambassador for the rights of the Girl Child by the Ministry of Human Rights.
Mehwish took to social media and posted a video expressing her gratitude on being chosen for the cause. The caption read, “Delighted to be appointed by the Ministry of Human Rights as their Goodwill Ambassador for the rights of the Girl Child. This is something very close to my heart and I look forward to actively raising awareness of the issues to be addressed. Let’s give girls the better future they deserve.”
It is a moment of pride for me that I will be able to play an important role in giving girls their due rights,” she said in the video, asserting that she wishes to see a Pakistan that provides education opportunities to girls.
She also urged fans and followers to support her in the cause because she believes, “If girls are given their rights, they can change the world.”
