Known for essaying the unconventional character of a dayan (witch) in supernatural thriller Belapur Ki Dayan, Amar Khan is currently appearing in a four-episode long production Roop, as part of Angeline Malik’s series, called Choti Choti Baatein.
The first part of the four-episode series went on air this Sunday and told the story of a girl called Zeena, who is constantly judged on the basis of her looks to the point that she develops an inferiority complex. However, the story takes a turn after she meets Rayan, essayed by Muneeb Butt, and they both develop feelings for each other.
“Roop highlights how people, especially girls, are judged based on their appearances,” Amar Khan told Instep, adding that, “this is a relevant topic as constant judging and body shaming leave girls disappointed and shatter their personalities .”
According to the actress, she essays the role of an innocent, studious girl Zeena, who wears nerdy glasses and doesn’t believe in investing in herself, as far as her appearance is concerned.
“She firmly believes that it is one’s competence and inner beauty that matters,” she continued. “Zeena is constantly slammed for the way she dresses up. However, she meets Rayan, who falls for her honesty and her abilities; how good she is at her work and is not bothered about the way she looks.”
The actress went on to say, “Through Roop we have tried to break one of the stereotypes prevalent in our society. In the upcoming episodes you will see how Zeena tries to break away from the stereotypical notions despite all the negativity that surrounds her and emerges out victorious by believing in herself and not her looks.”
Written by Pareesa Siddiqui, the mini-series features Mehmood Aslam, Rubina Ashraf, Ghana Ali and Lubna Aslam aside from Amar Khan and Muneeb Butt.
