After Fatema Sohail, wife of singer and actor Mohsin Abbas Haider, publically came out with her disturbing story of physical, mental and verbal abuse that she suffered at the hands of her husband, recent reports suggest that now Fatema is seeking legal help.
Though Mohsin Abbas Haider denied all allegations, saying there is no evidence, the actor/singer has been fired from the TV show, Mazaaq Raat, after the police registered an FIR against him for physically assaulting his wife.
Recently, Fatema Sohail appeared on a talk show titled Benaqaab, along with lawyer Muneeb Qadir, who is representing Fatema in the Mohsin Abbas Haider domestic violence case. According to the lawyer, these days he is coming across the term ‘woman card’ a lot. “The thing is that in all the cases a woman is always the victim of domestic abuse. For centuries men have been using the ‘man card’, which basically means that whenever a man wants he can hold a press conference and claim that he can take a second wife or divorce the woman whenever he wants,” said Qadir.
“So what is the hue and cry all about if a woman uses it. ‘Woman card’ should be a matter of pride and nothing to be ashamed of,” he added.
Muneeb Qadir further went on to say that Fatema’s family is not only supporting her but have confirmed that they agree with everything written in the application.
He continued, “Everyone uses the phrase, ‘innocent until proven guilty’, then why doesn’t this apply to the victim, why shouldn’t the victim get the benefit of the doubt?”
During the show, Qadir revealed that Fatema has shared all the evidence with the Chairperson of Punjab Women Protection Authority and that the case is very strong. “This is a legally and socially important case. And if we achieve legal victory and we are very hopeful that we will, this will prove a great example for other victims of domestic abuse,” added Qadir.
