The first ever National Youth Council, set up by Prime Minister Imran Khan, comprises prominent figures from fields such as sports, education, economy, religion and arts & culture. The PM will be Patron-In-Chief while Special Assistant on Youth Affairs, Usman Dar, will be the chairman.
Mahira Khan and Hamza Ali Abbasi will represent the entertainment industry while the council will also consist of cricketers Hassan Ali and Sana Mir, K-2 climber Samina Baig and motivation speaker-activist Muniba Mazari among others.
There are 33 members in total including Balochistan-based artist Shazia Batool, national footballer Karishma Ali and first transgender news anchor Marvia Malik, besides all provincial ministers for youth affairs - who will be a part of the council.
“The council’s agenda will be to uplift the youth for development and prosperity and empower them, while the members’ task will be to work and represent the youth and advise the government on matters relating to them. They are also expected to help mobilise the youth,” noted Dar in a video message explaining the purpose of the council.
Mahira Khan, who is gearing up for the release of Superstar this EidulAzha, took to social media and shared her gratitude on being a part of the council. “Honored to be a part of the first ever National Youth Council of Pakistan. Thank you Imran Khan. Let’s do this!”
