You know you have something special to cheer for – musically speaking – when former Poor Rich Boy member Shehzad Noor (Shorbanoor, a brilliant singer-songwriter), Ali Suhail (musical savant), Ibrahim Akram (Iba, who has spent more than a decade in music and is a member of Saakin) as well as the accomplished Saif Abbas come together for a song. Every member has clocked enough time in the music scene to be called a super-group.
‘Big ol Deities’ is a collaborative effort, but not the formation of a band, as Ali Suhail clears up talking to Instep in an exclusive conversation. It doesn’t necessarily mean more songs will come up. But, it is at least, for now, a giant single with a music video shot/edited and directed by Ali Suhail.
Scheduled to release on June 20, the song is nothing short of a miraculous, beautiful effort, with ethos of melancholia, a reality check and a post-rock, psychedelic effort that knows exactly what it is meant to be doing.
Speaking to Instep further about how this surprising collaboration came about, Ali Suhail notes, “It’s a one-off collaboration for now. I just went to Shezzy’s (Shehzad Noor) one day and we wrote a song I sent it to Saif and Iba and they sent me back their parts. The music video is a bunch of boomerang and time-lapses over time and I just edited them and put them over the song. It looked good to me.”
It looks and sounds very good to us as well. Watch out for it later this week, to be released by rearts.
