Saqib Malik’s upcoming thriller, Baaji is all set to release on June 28 with the trailer recently released. It garnered a great response. Starring Meera Jee, Osman Khalid Butt, Ali Kazmi, Amna Ilyas and Mohsin Abbas Haider, the film was being considered to mark its arrival on Eid ul Fitr instead of June 28 but then the date was reverted.
At a recent event in Karachi, we asked Saqib Malik what made him reconsider the release date and why didn’t he release his film on Eid when he knew it would benefit the film.
“When Maula Jatt got delayed, we considered it briefly but then we thought that already two films (Wrong No 2, Chhalawa) are releasing on Eid and everybody should have a level playing field,” he responded. “We are an industry that’s trying to stand up on its own feet and so, we really wanted to not affect anyone else’s work and give them a fair chance.”
However, he did admit that releasing Baaji on Eid would have definitely benefitted them but they decided not to.
“Their success is our success; every Pakistani film that succeeds is a success for me as a lover of Pakistani cinema and for somebody who is making films,” he added.
