Mariyam Nafees plays a “cutthroat journalist” in Bhook

Essaying important roles in ongoing drama serials Kamzarf and Dil Kiya Karey that feature her as an educated and vocal young woman, Mariyam Nafees is gearing up for next. Titled Bhook, the play went on-air last night and features her as a “cutthroat journalist,” according to Mariyam.

“I am playing the role of Geeti, a cutthroat journalist who wants her own show one day and is running after interesting, spicy stories for ratings,” the actor told Instep. “She is a spoilt, overambitious journalist whereas her mother (essayed by Hina Bayat) is a barrister who tries to give her a reality check. She (Geeti) later realises what damage she’s doing to the people and her work as a journalist.”

The actor also informed that Bhook follows the story of a woman, essayed by Maria Wasti, who tries to poison her kids due to her financial situation. “The actual incident happened in Lahore where a woman tried to drown her kids for the same reason,” Mariyam shared.

Mariyam shot to fame as Khajista in Ahad Raza Mir and Sajal Ali starrer Yakeen Ka Safar (2017) that turned out to be one of the most popular TV plays in recent years. Since then, she has been taking up diverse roles, from essaying a spoilt brat to an outspoken young woman (Kamzarf) to an educated and sensible girl (Dil Kiya Karey). Let’s wait and see what she has to offer in Bhook.
