Socially relevant play Khaani that tackled multiple themes such as classism, judicial system, a violent society followed by remorse, continues to make its name.

It was certainly one of the most critically and commercially acclaimed TV plays of last year. The Feroze Khan and Sana Javed drama, directed by Anjum Shahzad and written by Asma Nabeel, went on to bag multiple nominations at the upcoming edition of Lux Style Awards 2019.

Now the drama serial has another feather in its cap: the play has made it to TV screens in Saudi Arabia and is the only modern day Pakistani play to bag the spot. It is currently airing in Saudi Arabia on prime time. Previously, yesteryear iconic projects such as Dhoop Kinare and Tanhaiyaan were aired in Saudia Arabia.

“I am honoured; I feel very lucky that a completely new set of people, who speak a different language, are getting to see our work,” Feroze Khan, who has been nominated in the Best Actor category at the LSAs as well, told Instep in a telephonic conversation. “The fan pull is extremely crazy; people are loving it. I hope other Pakistani plays, too, make it there.”

Speaking about Khaani bagging multiple nominations at the 2019 edition of the LSAs, Feroze said, “I think it is really the content and the hard work. Who takes the trophy home is the question. It’s a very tough competition with veterans such as Noman Ijaz and Qavi Khan in the list. Being nominated is a win already.”
