The announcement was made at the Teefa In Trouble success party celebrating the film’s 50-crore mark.
One Pakistani film that broke all previous records and has a lot of ‘firsts’ to its credit is Teefa In Trouble that released on July 20, last year. Despite coming out on a non-holiday and going up against all sorts of personal odds, it performed really well at the local as well as international box office while it returned to cinemas on huge public demand after its first run.
Ahsan Rahim’s directorial debut, Teefa In Trouble marked Ali Zafar’s film debut in Pakistan and also introduced Maya Ali to the big screen. The film that is now available on Netflix recently hit the 50-crore mark worldwide. To celebrate the occasion, a success party was organized by streaming site Iflix at Café Flo in Karachi Friday evening.
Speaking to attendees, singer, songwriter and actor Ali Zafar hinted at a sequel to Teefa In Trouble when he asked Ahsan Rahim, “Let’s do Teefa in Trouble 2,” to which the director replies, “Yes Ali, let’s do it.”
When asked, Ali Zafar confirmed that this was not a hawai fire and that indeed they were planning a sequel. “Ali just couldn’t stop himself from sharing this,” beamed Ahsan Rahim later. “We have been discussing a sequel but now that he’s announced it, he’ll have to write it!”
Ali Zafar recalled how he dreamt of producing an iconic film for his country one day while he was working in Bollywood. He also spoke about releasing the film around the election week and on a non-Eid holiday despite that he was advised by many not to.
Though Maya Ali wasn’t present on the occasion as she is travelling for a fundraiser, the rest of the film’s cast and crew, including Ali Zafar’s wife and film’s producer Ayesha Fazli, was in attendance besides some renowned names from the industry. Humayun Saeed, Behroze Sabzwari, Nabila, Fizza Ali Meerza, Nabeel Qureshi, Shehzad Sheikh, Faakhir Mehmood, Yasir Nawaz, Deepak Perwani, Sonya Hussyn and the film’s distributor Nadeem Mandviwalla turned up at the event.
Congratulating Ali Zafar and the entire team of Teefa In Trouble, Humayun Saeed said, “I greatly enjoyed and loved the film and it has done a great service to the cinema industry in Pakistan.”
Director of the film, Ahsan Rahim maintained that he never knew the film would get so much love from audiences and would become Pakistan’s first non-holiday film to reach the 50-crore mark.
Teefa In Trouble was the first local film that was distributed internationally by Yash Raj Films and the third Pakistani film to generate 50 crores at the box office. It also holds the highest number of views on YouTube.
