Khurram Waqar, a slick Pakistani guitarist and a former member of Islambad-based rock band Qayaas, has moved on from his former band and in smart ways.
Having formed his own band, KW & The Facedown Movement a while back, Waqar is earning more street cred as the days go by.
Just last year, the band released a single accompanied by a music video called ‘Todi – The Smoker’ and the pure rock song won the band an award at VIMA Music Awards this March.
VIMA, an independent platform, launched nearly a decade ago and caters to music from Asia.
KW & the Facedown Movement have won rock song of the year for ‘Todi, the Smoker’ beating bands from countries such as India, Phillipines, Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
According to VIMA’s Facebook page, “The awards presentation to each winner will be done privately in Kuala Lumpur in April and in May based on the schedule of the organiser, sponsor and the convenience of the winner.”
The statement further adds: “All Gold winners in each category will automatically qualify for the VIMA Song of the Year award that will only be evaluated by the VIMA Global judges and no public voting will be available. Judging will take place from March 7th till March 23rd. The VIMA Song of the Year winner will be announced at the end of March.”
Here’s hoping KW & the Facedown Movement brings home the trophy for Song of the Year as well but in the meantime here’s to the band, doing things the indie way and still winning awards, that too outside Pakistan.
