Director Mehreen Jabbar, who is known for her unique storytelling technique, will be returning to television with Dil Kiya Karey that will go on-air later this month. Starring Feroze Khan and Yumna Zaidi as the lead pair, the play makes room for some light romance, according to the teasers that have started coming out. The melodious OST, sung by Mustafa Zahid and Sharvari Deshpande, complements the theme of the upcoming play that is sure to break away from usual plots and characters.
“The story covers multiple themes ranging from selfless love, finding love after loss, finding a purpose in one’s life and the fulfillment that comes from public service,” Mehreen Jabbar told Instep in an exclusive chat. “It’s a story of relationships, including both family and friendships, and how these bonds strengthen one another.”
Mehreen’s last project for TV was a telefim called Dino Ki Dulhaniya with Feroze Khan and Sana Javed in key roles, and went on air on Eid-ul-Azha 2018. About Dil Kiya Karey, the director also shared that these important themes (mentioned above) have been told in a real and engaging manner.
“We have stayed away from high melodrama and unrealistic scenes,” added Mehreen. “We are hopeful that people will relate to the characters and story and the realism in the story telling. All of them have done a fantastic job and have gelled together so well. Credit goes to the actors and to Asma Nabeel (writer) and also to producers Abdullah Kadwani and Asad Qureshi for producing this genre of drama as well.”
The script for Dil Kiya Karey has been written by Asma Nabeel, who also penned the scripts of popular plays Khaani and Baandi as well as the upcoming Surkh Chandni that follows the life of an acid attack survivor. The inspiration for her stories comes from her surroundings, according to the writer.
Speaking of Dil Kiya Karey, Asma shared with Instep, “This story too was instigated by a few incidents around me and it has turned out in the form of a love story. Since this is my first ‘love story,’ it is very close to my heart. It is a thought provoking love story that has more to it than just a love triangle. I have touched upon three important issues aside from the love angle; one is domestic that addresses some taboos while the other two are societal issues such as law and order.”
Asma claims that this one is going to be different because it is a love story attached to a few important issues that need to be highlighted. “It is an honest effort and I am sure viewers will be able to relate to the characters and their tracks in the story,” she asserted.
Dil Kiya Karey has an ensemble cast including Feroze, Yumna, Zain Baig, Marina Khan, Sarmad Khoosat, Sonia Rehman, Shamim Hilaly, Abid Ali, Tanveer Jamal and Mariyam Nafees, who essays the role of Feroze’s sister in the project.
Feroze Khan, who will play the role of Armaan in Dil Kiya Karey shared in an earlier interview with Instep that this character is completely different than his earlier portrayals on-screen.
“Armaan is a selfless guy,” he revealed. “He wants to do good to everyone and wants to make everyone happy. I always take things back from my character. Mir Hadi in Khaani strengthened my faith. I like Armaan’s selfless approach towards life.”
We also spoke to Yumna Zaidi, who will be seen opposite Feroze, to ask about her character in Dil Kiya Karey.
“What I like about my character in this play is that it is not an experimental character like Sila in Dar Si Jati Hai Sila or Hayat in Yeh Raha Dil,” she admitted. “It is very smooth, simple and sweet. It also highlights how a loss in your life changes your personality and makes you stronger as a person. It has a beautiful, delicate love track too which will lead throughout.”
Reflecting on her costars, Yumna expressed that the cast was just perfectly amazing to work with. “We had amazing shooting times. My director Mehreen Jabbar was amazing to work with,” she added.
Dil Kiya Karey goes on air later this month and we are looking forward to it. Fingers crossed!
