Danish Taimoor and Sanam Chaudhry starrer Ab Dekh Khuda Kya Karta Hai, directed by Syed Ali Raza Usama and written by Syed Zarrar Ahmed, recently concluded on Geo TV. Based on the theme of ‘what goes around comes around,’ it followed the lives of Mariam (Sanam) and Jaan e Alam while others cross their paths in between.
The plot of Ab Dekh Khuda Kya Karta Hai revolves around Jaan e Alam, a young, rich businessman who takes advantage of women, often putting their dignity at stake. Mariam is one of those women but she refuses to succumb to his demands and runs away. This leads to serious conflict between the two and Jaan e Alam ruins her life as revenge. Years later, Jaan e Alam’s younger brother falls in love with Mariam, not knowing anything about her past. Jaan e Alam, who has now suffered as a result of his actions, is a different person altogether. He apologizes to Mariam and convinces her to marry his brother, promising that he will keep away from their lives.
The play, with powerful performances by Danish and Sanam, was worth watching as it highlighted the harsh realities of our society while it also taught a lesson to those who wrong others. The end was not hasty but was rather convincing, except for Jaan e Alam’s suicide, which we felt was unnecessary, given that he had sought apology and had compensated for Mariam’s loss. Our plays need to stop presenting suicide as a solution to all the problems in the world.
