Instep lists down five plays that are soon to hit our television screens.

With the New Year here, it seems like a lot of interesting TV plays are set to go on air in the coming days. Though most plays in 2018 focused on some of the most pressing social issues we’re dealing with these days, there are a number of new projects to watch out for as it will feature some our favourite actors including the likes of Saba Qamar, Feroze Khan and Yumna Zaidi among others. Let’s take a look at the interesting line-up of plays that will soon hit our television screens.

Dil Kya Karey

Written by Asma Nabeel of Khaani fame, the teasers of the upcoming play are already out. While it doesn’t give away the story, the chemistry between Yumna and Feroze looks quite interesting. However, Dil Kya Karey is a love triangle between Feroze, Yumna and Mariyam Nafees.

Asma Nabeel told Instep in an earlier interview, “It is a love story basically but we have highlighted an important issue along with it. Some issues that we have touched upon include the second marriage of young widows that is considered a social taboo.”

Produced under the banner of 7th Sky Entertainment, the drama has an all-star cast, including Usman Mukhtar, Marina Khan, Sonia Rehman, Sarmad Khoosat, Shamim Hilaly, Abid Ali and Tanveer Jamal besides Feroze, Yumna and Mariyam.

Earlier called, Kasa e Zaat, the play is now officially titled Kam Zarf, and is directed by Zeeshan Ahmed. The play stars singer-actor Junaid Khan, Mariyam Nafees, Rubab Hashim and Nadia Khan in key roles. The story revolves around an elder sister Aima, essayed by Nadia Khan, who is a typical conservative sister. She is dominant and has a strong influence on her younger siblings. Junaid Khan essays the role of Azir, a caring and emotional guy, who is a mediator between the eldest sister and the younger ones.

Speaking about her character, actress Mariyam Nafees earlier told Instep that she is playing the role of Faria, an American return who calls a spade, a spade. “She’s caring, empathetic and very blunt. She falls in love with Aima’s younger brother and stands up for herself and the people around her.”

The play is all set to hit TV screens this month.

After appearing in drama serial Baaghi, Saba Qamar will feature in Cheekh along with Bilal Abbas Khan and Aijaz Aslam. With the teasers already out, the upcoming play seems like an intense story that emphasizes on a social issue that surrounds us and how to speak up against social norms and stand up against harassment.

This is another play that will highlight the issue of domestic abuse. Directed by Ahmed Bhatti and written by Sameena Aijaz, Kaisa Hai Naseeban stars Ramsha Khan and Muneeb Butt in key roles. In our part of the world it is quite common for parents to marry off girls to boys settled abroad without any background check and later it is the girl who has to bear the brunt.

The teasers show an innocent girl (Ramsha Khan) trying to make things work with her abusive husband (Muneeb Butt) and evil mother-in-law, essayed by Uzma Gillani, who promises to treat her as a daughter.
