We reported earlier that director Dawar Mehmood and Anwar Maqsood are coming together yet again for an upcoming theatre play. According to recent developments, the play is called Naach Na Jaanay and is more like a prequel to social satire Aangan Terrha that was launched by the duo in 2013.
Instep got in touch with the legendary playwright to know more about the production.
“This is the story prior to Aangan Terrha and highlights what led to the things that happened in the latter,” Maqsood told us over a telephonic conversation. “It is set during Zia ul Haq’s martial law.” We’re already intrigued.
Anwar Maqsood also shared that Naach Na Jaanay is being made in collaboration with the Karachi Arts Council and KopyKats Productions, and is expected to premiere in Karachi on March 23, 2019.
According to KopyKats’ official Facebook handle, Aangan Terrha was the second part while the upcoming play is the beginning. “If you liked Aangan Terrha you’ll love this!”
The production house is currently looking for actors for the play that is based in another era.
Dawar Mehmood and Anwar Maqsood earlier joined forces for political satire Kyun Nikala that had a successful, extended run in Karachi, followed by a run in Lahore and Islamabad.
