With a number of animated films being released in the post-revival age of cinema, The Donkey King, a political satire, continues to impress audiences across Pakistan and sustain strong numbers at the box office.
At the end of the eighth week, the animated production has raked in a whopping 23.2 crores. In fact it is a first of its kind film that has been on top of the charts continuously. This makes The Donkey King the first animated film to have crossed the 20-crore benchmark by the 6th week and setting a new precedent for all animated movies produced in Pakistan until now.
According to box office estimates, the film earned approximately 1 crore in its eighth week and it seems that it will hit the 25-crore benchmark in the coming days.
Written, directed and co-produced by Aziz Jindani, The Donkey King released in cinemas across Pakistan on October 13 under the banner of Geo Films and follows the story of a donkey called Mangu, who becomes king by chance. What follows is an adventurous ride of various twists and turns as Mangu tries to figure things out.
The fact that the movie is still going strong at the box office is certainly remarkable.
