Deepak Perwani hosted a crackling Diwali party at his new home in Karachi this Friday. It turned out to be a great way to kick off the weekend as every one who’s anyone came to join the designer in one of the most auspicious days on the Hindu calendar. Other than Deepak’s family – tons of kids who fired extremely noisy crackers for the better part of the evening – there were friends and well wishers from the fashion fraternity. Deepak has enjoyed a long and very well-connected career in fashion, extending to TV, film and music and so the diverse selection of people at his party was not surprising. Best dressed of course were the gorgeous models, mostly in festive saris; Amna Ilyas, Sadaf Kanwal and Fauzia Aman looked beautiful. Several TV stars could be seen at the event, most prominently Sarwat Gillani who came in a traditional ivory outfit from The Pink Tree Company. Feroze Khan, also a friend and basking in the success of his current play Romeo Weds Heer, joined Nomi Ansari, who was undoubtedly one of the best dressed people that evening. Mahira Khan, who’s incapable of looking anything but beautiful, came in a traditional yet simple outfit while Ayesha Omar looked hot in Tena Durrani. The ever stylish Nausheen Shah carried an unconventional ensemble by Wardha Saleem very well while the tall and lovely Shaniera Akram sported a look from Yasmin Jiwa. It was a very fashionable evening and it was refreshing to see the fashion industry drop their usual casual or trendy personal styles to turn completely traditional.
