More and more musicians, some originally from Pakistan and others residing here, are representing the country abroad. The latest names to join that list include local musicians Jimmy Khan and Shahab Hussain.
Jimmy Khan, singer-songwriter has had a prolific year so far, appearing on Coke Studio 11, with co-signers Lucky and Naghma on the song ‘Baalkada’. In 2018, he also joined forces with The Kashf Foundation and Asna Pictures, and presented the music video for a song called ‘Dilri Lutri’ featuring Rakae Jamil on sitar with Umar Riaz helming the video. Jimmy has also announced a Punjabi album/EP that is set to release later this year. He has been widening his sound, working on soundtracks and growing from an indie-acoustic artist to someone much more unpredictable.
Shahab Hussain, another terrific evolving singer-songwriter, who has been a backing vocalist on Coke Studio since season nine and has worked with Salt Arts, and is reportedly touring with the likes of Jimmy Khan and working with bands like Mauj and Chand Tara Orchestra, has joined him on this tour alongside photographer/cinematographer/filmmaker Kohi Marri.
Coming to the present, Jimmy Khan and Shahab Hussain, in collaboration with Semazen & The Band played a show this month, in Amman, Jordan, and from early reports, it looks like they made music magic onstage, in between travelling and jamming. In doing so, they have reminded us that music is a meeting of cultures and has no geographical limits.
