It was reported earlier this year that well-known music video director Saqib Malik is gearing up for his big screen debut and Meera ji is expected to feature in it. All speculations about these rumours have been put to rest as the director has announced the cast of his upcoming film, titled Baaji. It will star Meera ji, Osman Khalid Butt, Amna Ilyas, Mohsin Abbas Haider, Ali Kazmi and veterans Nayyar Ejaz and Nisho.
Playing a prominent role in the film, Osman Khalid Butt took to social media to share the news with fans.
“I’ve waited the better part of a year to announce this news: I’m starring in Saqib Malik’s debut film with this kick-ass cast!” he posted. “People who’ve followed me since way back know what an absolute fan of Meera’s I am – it’s been (and remains) a fantastic journey and I cannot WAIT to share more news with you guys.”
Model-turned-actor Amna Ilyas, who was last seen on the big screen in Meenu Gaur and Farjad Nabi’s 7 Din Mohabbat In, will be seen as the female lead. She also shared her sentiments on being a part of Baaji in these words: “It’s a dream come true... Saqib Malik’s ability as a director is so astounding that I can’t wait for people to see it.”
Baaji is a social drama-thriller set against the backdrop of a ‘fading Lollywood and the emerging new order of the Pakistan film industry’, according to the recently released official press statement. It will soon near its completion and the makers claim that it is ‘a film with a difference’.
Co-written by Irfan Ahmed Urfi and Saqib Malik, the film will be high on glamour and drama. Though Baaji hopes to pay homage to the riveting story and character-oriented classics of Pakistani cinema of the seventies, it will be contemporary in its tone and treatment.
Speaking of the upcoming film’s music, looks like it will hit all the right notes as some of the musicians onboard for the project include Zeb Bangash, Jamal Rahman, Taha Malik and music maestro Altaf Hussain Tafu Khan aka Tafoo.
Baaji is expected to hit theatres next year.
