After giving rise to, and having taken the underground music in Pakistan forward with incredibly innovative music releases, Dynoman (Haamid Rahim), Smax (Amman Mushtaq) and Ziyad (Ziyad Habib) took their music to NYC this month.
At an event called Blank, the three artists were scheduled to play this month (September 26) at HOLO in Queens, New York. The show is said to have featured another artist, Lady Midnight, with the poster designed by Rahema Alam (whose artwork also features as the cover for Sanam Maher’s book, The Sensational Life and Death of Qandeel Baloch).
Hosted by Blank, Dynoman is said to have played the opening set. At least two artists, Smax and Dynoman, are also scheduled to play at another Blank event that is supposed to be held in November and will also host other artists.
Dynoman is the co-founder of the music collective, Forever South that has several releases to its credit. He is also a solo music producer.
Smax and Ziyad are members of the music group Mole, which has two albums including the iconic We’re Always Home to its credit. They are both music producers; Smax makes music games as well while Ziyad, who formerly went by the moniker Noahs Heark and was selected as a candidate from Pakistan for the prestigious Red Bull Music Academy in 2015, is also associated with Hear Now Records that has released several records. This summer, Ziyad released his experimental debut album called Compost Regrowth as well. The sounds from Pakistan, particularly Karachi, is going places thanks to these incredible producers and the musical innovation and complexity they offer and that is not small feat.
