Ian Fleming’s famous British Secret Service agent, James Bond may well be a womanizing, Martini-drinking, self-destructive antihero hero. Essayed by actors as iconic as Sean Connery, it seems a number of actors are either interested or in the running to play the role.
Henry Cavill, known for his role(s) in DC Extended Universe as Superman thinks he’s ready to take on the role of James Bond after starring in the recent Mission: Impossible –Fallout. Speaking to Yahoo Movies in an interview, Cavill noted, “I would love to do it of course. I think Bond would be a really fun role. It’s British, it’s cool. I think that now that I have my Mission: Impossible badge we can do real stunts and really amp it up as well.”
He added: “Not to say they weren’t doing real stunts. I’m just saying it would be fun for me to actually take what I’ve learnt on this and carry it through to a movie like Bond. I’d love to play a Brit. I don’t get to play a Brit very often. So yes, I would love the opportunity and if they were to ask I would say ‘yes’.”
However, Pierce Brosnan, from whom Daniel Craig took on the mantle of James Bond and went on to do four films while bringing them back to some form of believability, thinks Tom Hardy is the right choice.
“I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond,” said Brosnan in an interview. “I’d be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it – that’s what makes Bond.”
He did add: “Daniel Craig has been an incredible Bond. He’s very physical, he looks lethal. You genuinely believe this is someone who could kill a man.”
We all know that Daniel Craig feels miserable about doing the role, having done four films and stating in an interview: “If I did another Bond movie, it would only be for the money.”
Another major contender is Idris Elba (star of projects like Luther, The Dark Tower and Molly’s Game). Though Daniel Craig will return for one more film, it’s Idris Elba who is, according to reports, the frontrunner as far as Bond franchise Barbara Broccoli is concerned and who will be making the final call. On his part, Elba took to Twitter and wrote: “Don’t believe the hype.”
Other actors in the running include Tom Hiddleston and Michael Fassbender.
