While Bollywood movie Mulk, featuring Rishi Kapoor and Taapsee Pannu in lead roles, was banned in Pakistan due to its offensive content, actor Amar Khan recently took to social media to share her views about the movie and called it a “brave attempt”.
“Have you seen Mulk? Please do! I believe it will be a liberating cult in times to come,” the Belapur ki Dayan actor wrote on her official Facebook handle.
“This so called ‘Anti India-Pro Muslims and Pro-India and Anti Pakistan’ labeled film is one of the best takes on humanity and prejudices, which speaks beyond one’s religion and nationality.”
Amar Khan also pointed out that Mulk talks about the Muslim minority in India and also talks about how every Pakistani, and for that matter every Muslim in hasty generalization, is touted to be a terrorist.
She added, “All the Hindu actors are playing Muslims, which the director has intentionally played upon. Yes it has a little bit of abba jaan and darhis and jee huzoor type minor stereotypes. But (it is) by far one of the best, most realistic, fearless, believable and rock solid content driven film of 2018. This is a no propaganda movie – for instance when a film ends on a last shot of a Muslim boy from a madrassa/mosque wearing Dhoni’s mask or a Hindu girl (Taapsee) touching feet of a Muslim father-in-law even on an AsalamWalaikum, this shows a subtle but very convincing secularism stamp amongst people.”
In her post, the actor has urged everyone to watch the last court-room monologue and went on to say, “India, in the last one decade, has created some of the most impact worthy and applaudable court room dramas in films like Pink, Court and Jolly LLB 2, but you’ll love Rishi Kapoor, Tapsee Pannu, Aashutosh Rana and many others in a sensitive direction of Anubhav Sinha. Gone are the days of JP Dutta films, brave, brave, brave attempt and absolutely inspiring!”
