Annie (Quratulain) Ali Khan, model-turned-journalist was found dead in her apartment in Karachi after it caught fire on Saturday. The doctors at Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), where Annie’s body was taken for medico-legal formalities, confirmed that she died due to suffocation caused by the fire.

According to District South, Senior Superintendent Police (SSP), Omar Shahid Hamid, Annie lived alone.

Moreover, SSP Omar Shahid declared that the initial investigation showed that Annie died of suffocation after setting her books on fire herself and it might be a case of attempted suicide. The police officials also said that they will continue with the investigation as they haven’t found any evidence which might prove that she was murdered.

Reportedly, the police was informed by a neighbour who witnessed smoke coming out of her flat. The police rushed to the spot and after breaking down the door found her body inside along with some burnt books. Though the doctors didn’t find any burns or injury marks on her body (as per reports), they have collected samples to send them for chemical examination. Her body has been handed over to her family after legal formalities.

The 38-year-old Annie had transitioned from modeling to freelance journalism, and her brilliant work has been featured in prestigious publications such as Vantage, Marie Claire US, The Caravan, Herald, RIC Journal, Tanqeed, The Asia Society website as well as local publications.
