One of the most anticipated Bollywood films to release this year, Sanju, that chronicles the life of living legend and veteran Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt and features Ranbir Kapoor in the titular role, released worldwide on June 29 and has broken all box-office records, both in India and Pakistan, within a few days of its release.

Over the weekend, Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic has created history as it has raked in Rs. 10.28 crore at the local box office. This makes Sanju the second film ever to hit 10 crore after Salman Khan-starrer Sultan.

While Sanju managed to rake in Rs 3.2 crore on Friday, the numbers went to Rs 3.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 3.58 crore on Sunday. The record on Monday shows that the film has collected almost Rs 2.3 crore making the total to a whopping 12.58 crore in Pakistan so far.

According to The Indian Express, Ranbir Kapoor’s latest film Sanju has been slaying the box office in India (as well) since the day of its release. “Sanjay Dutt biopic has done exceedingly well in the opening weekend. After earning Rs 46.71 crore on Sunday, the film’s total collection now stands at Rs 120.06 crore,” The Indian Express wrote.

Though, Ranbir Kapoor’s last few films including Jagga Jasoos and Besharam didn’t do too well at the box office, the actor is getting rave reviews for his performance in Sanju. “Ranbir Kapoor is just as good as his reputation,” Times of India noted. “To state that he’s an incredible actor who fills Sanjay Dutt’s role with gravitas and spunk is stating the obvious. That’s expected from a talented actor like Ranbir. But what he does best in Sanju, is that he delivers the central character’s swag and nonchalance in the most effortless manner.”

The biopic traces the life of Sanjay Dutt, including the controversies, trials and tribulations that the actor went through. The film features an ensemble cast that includes Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Sonam Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal and Anushka Sharma in pivotal roles.
