In a recent turn of events, with reference to Ali Zafar and Meesha Shafi’s legal battle that began when Meesha Shafi made allegations of sexual harassment against Ali Zafar, the latter has been granted “a permanent stay against Meesha Shafi until the final decision of the case,” notes a press release.
As per the notice, Meesha is restrained from making any further claims against Ali Zafar across all available mediums including social media until the final decision of the court arrives.
In the case lodged by Ali Zafar’s legal counsel, it is stated that Meesha Shafi’s case was already dismissed some weeks ago at the Ombudsman’s office – the official organization to protect women from harassment. The case was dismissed for not withstanding Meesha Shafi’s allegation of harassment at the workplace. The next date of court hearing is in July.
Instep reached out to Meesha Shafi’s lawyer, Ahmed Pansota to find out their response to the recent notice and how they plan to pursue the case. He confirmed that they (Meesha’s legal team) have not received any notice from the court as yet (while this piece was being written).
Coming back to the allegation, on April 19, Meesha Shafi made a statement (via a tweet) that Ali Zafar sexually harassed her “on more than one occasion”. In response, Ali Zafar filed a defamation suit against Meesha Shafi for her allegations and as per recent development, the case was taken up by Additional District Judge Mr. Ahmed Shahzad. Advocate Supreme Court Ali Sibtain Fazli, Barrister Ambreen Qureshi and Advocate Rana Intezar argued the case in which the judge granted a stay order in favour of the plaintiff, Mr. Ali Zafar.
