The 22-year-old actor, who stole the show in last year’s Call Me By Your Name, will be essaying a meth addict in the upcoming film about addiction, hope and survival.

If you think Timothee Chalamet’s performance in Luca Guadagnino-directed Call Me By Your Name that fetched him an Academy Award nomination earlier this year was a mere fluke, think again.

The 22-year-old is starring in an upcoming film called Beautiful Boy as Nic. Beautiful Boy is said to chronicle the struggle of a meth addict, told through the eyes of his father, essayed by Steve Carell. The teaser trailer is riveting.

Writing about the film’s haunting trailer preview, unveiled by Amazon in recent days, Entertainment Weekly noted: “I’m attracted to craziness and you’re just embarrassed because I was like, this amazing thing, like your special creation or something and you don’t like who I am now,” a visually frazzled Nic says to his father, David (Steve Carell), as they sit opposite each other in a restaurant. The clip then cuts to images of Nic popping a set of pills. “Who are you, Nic?” asks Carell. He says: “This is me, dad. This is who I am.”

The film has, not surprisingly, generated serious Oscar buzz for Timothee Chalamet’s performance and is deeply relevant to the times we live in where addiction is a growing concern, at home and beyond and where it is still a taboo subject where many do not see it as an illness.

As for the story, it is adapted from a memoir called Beautiful Boy by David Sheff and Tweak by his son, Nic Sheff and is written and directed by Felix Van Groeningen, who earned an Oscar nod for a film called The Broken Circle Breakdown.

Brad Pitt, who is somewhat of a savant when it comes to picking projects (as a producer), having backed several Oscar-nominated films (Moneyball, The Tree of Life, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford) as well as Oscar-winning films (Moonlight, 12 Years A Slave, The Big Short, Selma, The Departed) is producing the film.

While Beautiful Boy gears up to release this October, there is more good news for Timothee Chalamet fans as he has several interesting projects coming up.

As Variety noted, Chalamet will star as “the young, disgraced Prince Hal, who inherits the crown and must learn what it means to be a king, guided by his one true friend, Falstaff (Edgerton).” In the project, he will be joined by Robert Pattinson, a piece of news that is breaking the Internet, so well done Amazon.

The actor is also starring in Woody Allen’s A Rainy Day in New York with Elle Fanning, Selena Gomez, and Jude Law which is scheduled to release this year; he’s also starred in Hot Summer Nights, a film in which his character becomes tangled as a weeds dealer. This particular film premiered at SXSW but has seen a limited release so far even though it is scheduled to appear in 2018 as well so look out for it.

All in all, Chalamet has managed to create a very credible list of films to his name and it looks like he’s in no mood to stop.
