Morgan Freeman demands retraction from CNN

After making an apology followed by a terrible non-apology apology, Morgan Freeman seems to be on a roll of just the wrong kind. CNN ran an investigative story on the actor this month in which 16 people spoke to the outlet about Freeman’s behavior, including eight who said they were “victims of what some called harassment and others called inappropriate behaviour” while another eight noted, “they witnessed Freeman’s alleged conduct,” creating what is a pattern of “inappropriate behavior by Freeman on set, while promoting his movies and at his production company Revelations Entertainment”.

In the aftermath, the actor’s law firm has sent a ten-page letter to CNN and wants the article retracted. Said Freeman’s lawyer, “At a minimum, CNN immediately needs to issue a retraction and apologize to Mr. Freeman through the same channels, and with the same level of attention, that it used to unjustly attack him on May 24.”

The one good news is that CNN is standing by their story.

“The unfounded accusations made by Mr. Freeman’s lawyer are disappointing and are difficult to reconcile with Mr. Freeman’s own public statements in the aftermath of the story,” a statement reads. “CNN stands by its reporting and will respond forcefully to any attempt by Mr. Freeman or his representatives to intimidate us from covering this important public issue.”

As for Morgan, he has made his stance very clear in this statement: “All victims of assault and harassment deserve to be heard. And we need to listen to them. But it is not right to equate horrific incidents of sexual assault with misplaced compliments or humour.”

And this is what you call fall from grace.
