Asim Abbasi’s debut feature film Cake - that released on March 30 in Pakistan and beyond - generated great reviews from both viewers and critics. Starring Sanam Saeed, Aamina Sheikh and Adnan Malik in pivotal roles, the film is a family drama and highlights issues between parents and their grown-up children as well as among siblings.

A couple of weeks after the film’s release, it was announced that a prologue featuring Sanam Saeed is soon to release online as part of a short-form English web series. The first episode, out of five webisodes, is out now and stars Sanam (Zara) alongside actor Gianbruno Spena who features as Adnan. It revolves around the two as they develop interest in each other while in London and decide to be together. Perhaps this is how their story begins, as we learnt in Cake (the film) that Zara is married to someone in London and visits Pakistan when she learns about her father’s health.

While this was the first part, there are four more episodes left that will follow the life of Zara and Adnan in London and serve as a prologue to the film.

Coming back to Cake, the film has multiple international screenings and accolades to its credit so far and is the first one to have a world premiere in the UK, prior to its release in Pakistan.

It features Mikaal Zulfiqar, Faris Khalid, Beo Zafar and Mohammad Ahmed in important roles aside from Sanam, Aamina and Adnan.
