Uzair Jaswal, the youngest of the Jaswal brothers, first came into the limelight with his soulful track ‘Nindiya Ke Paar’ which was featured in the 5th season of Coke Studio in 2012. Four years later, in December 2016, the singer turned actor launched his debut album Na Bhulana, which won the Lux Style Award for Album of the Year in 2017.
And now Uzair is collaborating (for the first time) with Momina Mustehsan for an upcoming single called ‘Hamesha’, the video of which will be coming out by the end of this month.
“Momina and I go way back to school times,” Uzair told Instep on collaborating with Momina. “We always used to talk about collaborating but because I was here and busy with acting and singing, and Momina was always on the go, things didn’t seem to work out.”
He added, “So I was working on this song when Momina happened to be in town; she wanted to hear the song. After hearing it, we finalized everything. And that’s how we got started with the recording.”
While Uzair didn’t reveal much about ‘Hamesha’, he shared that it is a mellow ballad. “It is a slow number. It sounds very organic with violin and keyboard. It doesn’t involve any electronic music, it is a simple, basic track.”
Reflecting on working with Momina, Uzair said, “It is always fun working with her because we have known each other for such a long time now. It was an amazing experience, Momina has a beautiful voice and I am really excited for this song.”
Uzair Jaswal has also made a name for himself as an actor and has plays like Moray Saiyaan (2016) and Shayad (concluded recently) to his credit. According to Uzair, there are a few television projects that he is working on. “I am doing a lot of TV these days which takes up a lot of my time. I am considering a few scripts; let’s see how things fare, as I plan to do two plays this year.”
Apart from his duet with Momina Mustehsan, Uzair is currently busy completing his second album. Almost two months ago, he released a single ‘Sohneya’ from his second album, which has a romantic pop style that the singer is best known for. However, the video is quite different and has a club vibe to it.
As far as film music is concerned, Uzair shared that he would love to venture into playback singing. “I believe it is a bit tough to do playback singing as you have to work around the actor. It is completely different from independent, solo, pop music, but I would love to do that in the future,” he concluded.
