The Feroze Khan and Sana Javed starrer continues to generate high ratings, hitting a record breaking number last week and leaving fans anticipating the next episode.

Khaani has touched upon issues that are prevalent in our part of the world and continue to affect people from all walks of life, especially people from the lower strata of society.

One of the most talked about TV plays these days, Khaani is breaking all previous records in terms of ratings, reaching up to 10.2 points last week with Episode 21. The drama stars Feroze Khan as Mir Hadi and Sana Javed as Sanam Khan aka Khaani while it has been directed by Anjum Shahzad. It revolves around the lives of these two individuals who cross each other’s path following a horrific incident.

Self obsessed and egoistic Mir Hadi, who happens to be the son of a powerful politician, takes the life of Khaani’s twin brother in broad daylight. Khaani files a case against him and refuses to take a backseat despite his warnings and threats. However, he is freed and pardoned from the charge given his strong social and political background, leaving Khaani and her family in distress.

Though Mir Hadi is released from jail, he cannot free himself from the guilt that starts overwhelming him once he realizes how much Khaani scorns and hates him for his actions. He starts stalking her and predictably, falls for her innocence, charm and simplicity. Mir Hadi writes to her anonymously, pursuing her as a secret admirer, and unknowing of the truth, she begins to fall for her suitor. However, when she finds out the truth, she reacts aggressively and relocates to a new place with her family, leaving Mir Hadi high and dry.

At her new workplace, Khaani meets Arham, her boss’s grandson, who proposes to her and she agrees to marry him. However, on the wedding day, Hadi finds her and abducts her with the intention of marrying her. Something changes in their exchange – which can be positioned as the climax of the play – and he is left speechless and defeated. He takes Khaani back home. Khaani, who wants to come clean with the situation, is forced by her mother to stay silent and she marries Arham with incredible guilt of the lie she is harboring. She knows that she is building a relationship with her new husband on a lie. He has no idea that Khaani’s brother was murdered, that too by Mir Hadi, who has been pursuing her for over a year.

Starting off as a story that tackles important issues such as power-play, politics, class difference and murder, Khaani’s focus gradually shifted to the convoluted relationship between Mir Hadi and Khaani, positioning it as a love story. But is it a love story? That question is yet to be answered.

Khaani has touched upon issues that are prevalent in our part of the world and continue to affect people from all walks of life, especially people from the lower strata of society. The rich and powerful easily get away with crimes as serious as murders while the poor are left to suffer the injustices and are forced to stay quiet.

21 episodes into the play, it seemed that it reached its climax after Khaani got married to Arham and Hadi lost her as retribution to his crime. However, the conflict hasn’t resolved yet as sources suggest that there is yet another twist and apparently there are still a few episodes left. Whether Khaani unveils the truth to her husband or not, or whether Mir Hadi surrenders himself to police (as the promo of the next episode suggests) or is there something else that awaits viewers, we will find out in the coming episode.

– Episode 21 was repeated this week due to the channel’s distribution issues. Episode 22 will be aired next Monday.
