Ratings have definitely become the most important parameter to define the success of anything that goes on air, whether it is a drama serial, a reality show or a morning show. It holds immense significance, so much so, that it is kept in mind way before a project is put into process and the content is generated accordingly. TV plays are a key example of this idea and are largely governed by ratings. Instep looks into some of the projects that have managed to achieve this purpose and have made it to the list of top 10 TV plays for the month of February.
Khaani
Consistently topping the charts is the Feroze Khan and Sana Javed starrer Khaani that is presently on air on Geo TV. Having started off with an unusual story, the drama offers a unique take on love and relationships amidst themes of power and politics. It features Feroze as Mir Hadi, son of an influential politician, who falls in love with a middle class young woman Khaani, essayed by Sana. Given that Mir Hadi kills Khaani’s brother, his love is up against her hatred for him, which creates complications and emotional interludes. In the latest episode (which reportedly got the highest rating ever of 10.2) we see Mir Hadi intercepting Khaani’s wedding with a desire to marry her. Whether he is able to succeed in his plans or not, we will find out in the next episode.
Khalish
Faysal Qureshi starrer Khalish that airs every Wednesday on Geo TV is one of our favourite TV plays these days. It is a revenge story that features Faysal as Sahil and Asif Raza Mir as his father Altamash while Zainab Qayyum (ZQ) essays the role of his mother, Mumtaz. Altamash marries Mumtaz but backs out of the commitment he had made to her and refuses to accept her in front of his family in fear of disapproval from them. This leaves Mumtaz and Sahil alone and the two are forced to lead their lives in extreme poverty without any support from Altamash. When Sahil comes in contact with Altamash after many years, as his mother reaches Altamash for support while she is on the verge of dying, he is determined to take revenge from his father. What will be his plan once he steps into his father’s house remains to be seen.
Silsilay
Another drama serial that is leading ratings chart is Silsilay that features Junaid Khan, Momal Sheikh, Muneeb Butt and Hiba Bukhari in key roles. It follows the story of two sisters who live in their aunt’s house ever since their mother parted ways with their father. Since they are dependent on their aunt, they have to bear with all the injustices and mistreatment that comes their way. However, now when these two sisters have grown up, they are not willing to put up with mistreatment of sorts anymore and are keen on leading an independent life. Will they be able to support themselves and their mother on their own or will they have to rely on their aunt, the next few episodes will tell.
Khamoshi
Khamoshi is another tale of pain and sufferings that surround the life of the protagonist Arsala, essayed by Zara Noor Abbas while it also features singer turned actor Bilal Khan, Affan Waheed and Iqra Aziz in pivotal roles. Arsala takes on the responsibility of earning a living for her family and lives away from home to upgrade the lifestyle of her family. She not only has to bear the distance from her family but also loses the love of her life to her sister. However, it seems, life has better plans for her as an extremely rich and kind man expresses his love for her and wishes to marry her. However, we aren’t sure if Arsala will accept his proposal or not; we’ll find out in the coming episodes.
