One of the six Pakistani films made under ‘Zeal for Unity’ project, Moomal Rano (earlier called Mohabbat Ki Aakhri Kahani) will finally see the light of the day in Pakistan. Starring Ahsan Khan and Saba Qamar, the 90-minute film is all set to be screened at the upcoming Pakistan International Film Festival (PIFF), next month.
“This will be the first time the film will be shown in Pakistan,” Siraj ul Haque, the director of Moomal Rano told Instep. “This might be followed by its release in cinemas or on local TV channels since it was initially planned for television by Zee TV. People want us to release it in cinemas since it has star power as well as commercial value but we haven’t finalized anything yet.”
Speaking about the film, the director shared that it is a love story with a blend of folktale and a modern, contemporary touch. “It has both Sindhi and Urdu songs,” he added.
While Moomal Rano will premiere in Pakistan next month, it has been screened at multiple international film festivals including the Wollongong Film Festival 2017 and the Jaipur International Film Festival (JIFF) 2018 that took place earlier this year.
Aside from Saba and Ahsan, the film also stars Hussain Qadri, Asad Qureshi, Salman Saeed and Zainab Jameel. Penned by Zafar Miraj, it was supposed to release under Zeal for Unity project initiated by Zee Network a couple of years ago but this couldn’t materialize given the rift between Pakistan and India.
