With mixed expectations and little hype, Chupan Chupai opened to good reviews from critics as well as industry insiders post its premiere on December 28, a day before its official release. Starring Ahsan Khan, Neelam Muneer, Faizan Khawaja, Ali Rizvi, Vajdaan Shah and Zayed Sheikh, the film raked in Rs 45 lacs on its opening day, followed by an increase in numbers the following days.

The total amount collected by Chupan Chupai on its opening weekend is Rs 1.4 cc, which is nearly 40 per cent more than what Arth and Rangreza had collected in their opening weekend, according to Box Office Detail. Not to forget, Arth released on Thursday morning and Rangreza opened on Thursday night whereas Chupan Chupai released on Friday morning.

On Saturday, Chupan Chupai collected RS 50 lacs and maintained the numbers on Sunday which is a good sign as there is usually a drop on New Year. The film did well in Karachi and Hyderabad over the weekend while it beat bigger films in Rawalpandi and Islamabad with even greater numbers. According to Ali Zain of Box Office Detail, “Chupan Chupai is heading toward a week one total of 2.25 cr approx but the picture will get clear by end of Tuesday.”

Being the last film of 2017, Chupan Chupai turned out to be the surprise hit that Pakistani cinema desperately needed. It is encouraging to see the film faring well at the box office despite the fact that the director as well as most of the cast members have made their debut with the film. Its success also hints at the idea that you don’t necessarily need known faces to pull viewers to cinemas and that entertainment quotient of a film has enormous value.
