With the New Year just a week away, multiple Pakistani films are lined up for release in 2018; Parchi, Cake and Maan Jao Na are just some of the films that are scheduled to come out in the first quarter of the next year.

The first release of the year, Parchi, is an action comedy that is releasing on the 5th of January and stars Hareem Farooq, Ali Rehman Khan, Usman Mukhtar, Ahmed Ali Akbar and Shafqat Khan in pivotal roles.

Shafqat Khan, who is also the writer of the film, spoke to Instep recently about his character (Bhola) in the film. “Bhola is half-dumb and half-intelligent but whenever something goes wrong, it’s because of him. He is fond of eating and as soon as he finds something to eat, he forgets everything else no matter how important it may be.”

The character is in sharp contrast to the one Khan played in his debut film, Janaan in which he essayed the role of the chief antagonist. Parchi will be his second big screen project as an actor while he is making his debut as writer with the film. He has been associated with theatre since 2006 and has worked with the likes of Hamza Ali Abbasi, Zahid Ahmed, Urwa Hocane, Mawra Hocane and others.

“I have done around 13-14 commercial theatre plays and wrote them as well,” he informed. In addition to his theatre work, Khan has also done some TV shows in the past and a sitcom, called Ready Steady Go, is currently on air that stars him in a key role.

Coming back to Parchi, the cast is currently on a promotional spell for the film across Pakistan and beyond; it is also going to be the first local film to release in Saudi Arabia. Responding to why people should come and watch the film, Khan said, “It’s a roller coaster ride, a complete entertainer with fast paced narrative.”
