Celebrity endorsements may be a marketing tool but they can play a meaningful role when it comes to social causes. Their presence adds weight to the entire initiative because of their mass appeal. The most recent example in this regard is actor Ushna Shah, who has joined Todd’s Welfare Society (TWS) as their ambassador, to contribute to animal welfare and create awareness on animal safety. The NGO is based in Lahore and works towards protecting injured, sick, abandoned and neglected animals while it was formed on March 6, 2016.
“I’m truly grateful to Todd’s welfare society for welcoming me on board,” Shah noted in a conversation with Instep. “The entire team works day and night to rescue and aid injured/orphaned animals. Pakistan is in dire need of awareness for animal rights; there are many wonderful NGOs working for this cause such as PAWS, Save Our Strays, the incredible ACF foundation (Karachi) and quite a few more. But all of these organizations need as much help as they can get. The attitude towards animal welfare is not nearly what it should be in Pakistan. Todd’s is close to home for me because it’s a Lahore based NGO and I’ve been involved with them since they started up. Now that the involvement is official hopefully we can work together to raise awareness as well as funds and help some innocent voiceless creatures by being their voice. There is a lot of work ahead of us; we intend to get to it.”
On the work front, Shah is currently essaying the role of a prostitute, Reena Begum in Alif Allah Aur Insaan while her drama Neelam Kinarey concluded last week.
