Shoaib Mansoor’s highly anticipated film, Verna released on November 17 after much controversy over its run with the censor board; fortunately and surprisingly the film was released without any cuts. Starring Mahira Khan, Haroon Shahid and Zarrar Khan in pivotal roles, the film opened to much hoopla and also some very harsh reviews. The reviews have not, however, had much effect on the box office numbers, it seems.

According to boxofficedetail.com, the film opened to decent numbers on the local box office and raked in 68 lacs on Friday while it witnessed growth over the next two days. With a business of 1.12 cr on Saturday and 90 lacs on Sunday, the total amount at the end of the weekend was 2.7cr. However, our sources tell that the film saw a fall the following day, that is, Monday.

According to reports, Verna has been made on a small budget (reportedly 5 cr) and hence these numbers do qualify it as a success.

As far as reviews are concerned, they have been mixed. Verna is Shoaib Mansoor’s third film in a series of social commentaries that began with Khuda Kay Liye and then Bol. This is also considered the weakest in the trio and has been subject to a lot of criticism. One would love to hear Shoaib Mansoor’s take on it, if the evasive director ever decides to make a public appearance.
