The past decade has witnessed numerous musicians achieving various feats through the music platform that is Coke Studio. Though the popular music production’s tenth season recently came to an end, it is also true that the show has become an integral part of every household in the country. It is the one platform that has given Pakistan huge bragging rights about its brilliant musical heritage globally as well.
Case in point: Atif Aslam’s rendition of popular qawwali ‘Tajdar e Haram’ for Coke Studio Season 8 that has broken all previous records held by videos from Pakistan on YouTube. The music video has been watched in a staggering 186 countries and has crossed over 100 million views.
The qawwali was originally sung by the Sabri Brothers while Atif Aslam’s unique spin remains just as memorable. The success of this version grew exponentially in the Middle East and India, where the song trended on YouTube after its release.
Presently, the future of Coke Studio remains unknown with Strings having bowed out from the duty of producers after four years. It was under their tenure that ‘Tajdar-e-Haram’s Coke Studio version was born. Irrespective of what happens to the show, this rendition of ‘Tajdar-e-Haram’ from Coke Studio, sung by Aslam, will always remain special.
