After launching a diverse range of unforgettable characters, DC Comics introduces yet another distinct superhero to the list with their latest production, Legends of Tomorrow. It features a female Muslim hero, called Zari, who is a computer hacktivist from 2042. The role is being essayed by Iranian-American actress Tala Ashe.

Reflecting on the character of Zari, Marc Guggenheim, executive producer of the show, shared with the press in Los Angeles, “We all recognized that there weren’t enough women on the bridge of the Waverider (the team’s time-jumping ship). It’s something we’d been looking to address. And we were talking about bringing on a female character and what her powers could be.”

He also informed that while they were thinking on these lines, Donald Trump issued a ban on travelers from several Muslim countries sometime in November last year. And because of that, he and the other writers of the show, “sort of gravitated towards the idea of the character being Muslim” however he insisted that they didn’t plan “to make a political statement” with Zari.

“One of the things that we really pride ourselves on is that someone’s race, religion or sexual orientation is not the only aspect of their character,” he noted.

Legends Of Tomorrow is a spin-off of the DC Comics-inspired series Arrow (2012 to present) and The Flash (2014 to present) in which Zari (Tala Ashe) will be joined by other heroes including Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), Atom (Brandon Routh), Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell) and Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) who return in the third season of the show.
