Sunil Shanker’s Chup opens to good reviews

Theatre actor-director Sunil Shanker has done some tremendous work in the past with plays like Qasoorwaar, Court Martial and Metaphysical Karachi. And his latest offering, Chup is no exception. Directed by Shanker and written by thespian Fawad Khan, both of whom are also acting in the play, the one-hour production opened to great reviews on August 28 at NAPA Basement theatre in Karachi.

In terms of the story, it follows a protagonist called Salman, essayed by Fawad Khan, who is constantly receiving phone calls from an unknown number. His mother receives similar calls. However, his father, who has hearing problems, seems to hear something no one else does. They all have a different explanation for what’s going on but nobody knows if it’s a sign, a warning or a call from someone they know.

Aside from Sunil Shanker and Fawad Khan, the ensemble cast includes Bakhtawar Mazhar and Kaif Ghaznavi. Chup will run till September 1 at the NAPA Basement theatre in Karachi.
