Lahore-based indie-rock band Poor Rich Boy staged a stunning return this year when they played a beautiful set during the third edition of Lahore Music Meet. Returning to the stage after almost two years, the band gave music listeners plenty to talk about.
In a postscript interview with The National, the revered music group with two beautiful, layered albums to their credit revealed that work on their third album has begun.
Over the years the line-up of the band has evolved and the current line-up includes Umer Khan (vocalist, also known as Duck) Sameer Ahmed (bassist), Ibrahim Akram (drums) and Zain Ahsan (guitarist/producer).
As for the upcoming third album from the band, it is called Almost Tuesday and two singles from this record - ‘Preacher’ and ‘Cereal Killer’ - have been released thus far.
Speaking about the upcoming record, Zain Ahsan told The National, “Duck wanted to go all socially-relevant this time around. If I’m not completely mistaken, [‘Preacher’] is about the mental gymnastics of a person who sees institutional and institutionalised violence in his or her society but does not wish to take any steps to remedy the situation or even help out in any meaningful way.”
Mekaal Hasan, who has worked closely with Poor Rich Boy and spoke to Instep recently, noted that unlike other artists that he works with, PRB has a clear musical philosophy that is implemented by lead guitarist/producer Zain Ahsan. “Poor Rich Boy is Zain Ahsan’s vision. He decides on the sounds and what the mix should sound like. I just mix for him. I don’t make that many creative suggestions with Poor Rich Boy because he’s already got it figured.”
The plan for PRB is to release one song at a time from their upcoming studio album, which is self-financed. “We’ll probably end up making a few hundred CDs to give out to our friends but mostly it’ll be released on electronic media: Spotify, iTunes and Patari,” said Ahsan.
