Boney Kapoor’s much anticipated mother-daughter drama, Mom holds special significance for Pakistani audience since it stars actors from home, namely Sajal Aly and Adnan Siddiqui in pivotal roles alongside veteran Bollywood actor Sridevi. While Aly plays Sridevi’s stepdaughter in the film, Siddiqui plays her life partner.
As the film gears up for release, the first song from the soundtrack has arrived and it looks less like a typical Bollywood number and more like a track that is meant to articulate the film’s subtext with subtlety.
The song is called ‘O Sona Tere Liye’ and revolves around Aly’s struggle. It features Siddiqui’s small family that includes Sridevi, Aly and a second younger daughter. The song suggests that Aly has gone through a tough time that has left her completely shattered and in a state of disarray. Through the song and its video, the message that emerges is one of unity as Aly’s character is guided by her father (Siddiqui) and mother (Sridevi) to embrace life despite the many tragedies that make up existence in the modern age.
Written by Irshad Kamil, the soulful track is sung by A. R. Rahman and Shashaa Tirupati. The lyrics and vocals fit well to the situation the family is going through.
Directed by debutant Ravi Udyawar and produced by Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor, Mom also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Akshaye Khanna. The film is expected to release on July 7, this year.
