Saba Qamar’s Bollywood debut Hindi Medium opposite Irrfan Khan has garnered mostly positive reviews ever since its release. Though the film, direct by Saket Chaudhary, didn’t have a great start at the box office, the numbers are going up since.
According to renowned movie critic and business analyst in India, Taran Adarsh, the film has crossed the 50 crore mark at the box office towards the end of two weeks. “Hindi Medium crosses 50 crore, emerges a winner,” Adarsh tweeted. The current numbers are 53.60 crore.
Starring Qamar and Khan as a middle class, married couple, Hindi Medium talks about society’s prejudice against those who can’t speak in English. Given the discrimination one has to face on the basis of the language they speak, the two wish to get their daughter admitted in an English medium school. The film centers on how the two go about this mission and whether they succeed or not.
Qamar, who made her Bollywood debut with the film, has garnered appreciation for her performance in the film on both sides of the aisle. Celebrities and critics from both Pakistan and India have praised her work. Given the strong word of mouth and positive reviews backing the film, it is possible that it will soon hit the coveted 100 crore mark.
