The trailer of Kabir Khan’s upcoming film, Tubelight, which stars Salman Khan in a ‘special role’, is out and it is intriguing. Set against the backdrop of Indo-China war that took place in 1962, the film tells the story of a simple man played by Khan. It is interesting to note that aside from Salman, Tubelight will also feature super star Shah Rukh Khan in a cameo.
Speaking about SRK’s cameo in the film, director Kabir Khan told Indian Express that though he finds the idea of big stars doing cameos “gimmicky”, the role played by Shah Rukh Khan demanded a superstar.
“It was a role screaming for a superstar cameo otherwise I wouldn’t have,” he noted. “I find it gimmicky but when you will watch the film, you will realize the role needed a superstar. We went to him with the role and he was kind enough to agree. It is a brilliant cameo but I can’t say much about it because it will take away the joy of seeing it.”
However it’s not the first time the director is working with Shah Rukh. The two recently shot a short film together for Dubai Tourism. Upon working on a feature film with SRK, Kabir Khan noted, “I would love to work with him. I have known him since college days in Delhi. We shot for an advertisement recently and we do speak about ideas. So, if there comes an idea we both agree upon, I am sure we will collaborate.”
Coming back to Tubelight, the film’s trailer garnered immense praise ever since it came out on social media. It is said to be the remake of English film Little Boy and stars Chinese actor Zhu Zhu and Sohail Khan in pivotal roles alongside Shah Rukh and Salman. The film is scheduled to release around Eid this year.
