Singer-songwriter Umair Jaswal has been around for a while. He started off with music group Qayaas and has been regularly appearing on Coke Studio for several years. His last venture ‘Khaki Banda’ for Coke Studio 9, in collaboration with Ahmed Jahanzeb is nominated for Song of the Year in the upcoming Lux Style Awards. And now the singer is gearing up to release his first solo album, which is currently in the tracking phase.

“This is my first solo album; it’s very close to my heart and it sounds nothing like Qayaas,” Jaswal told Instep. “It’s been a decade of music for me and the album comprises songs that I wrote for myself and the songs that never made it to the Qayaas album (Uss Paar) because of their simple structures. I want to make music for my fans and I’ll try to have something for everyone in there. Some of the tracks on the record are at least 10-11 years old so it’s coming from a raw and pure place.”

While the album is being produced by Sarmad Ghafoor, those who’re an integral part of the song writing process include Jaswal’s band mates Ali Suhail, Zain Peerzada, Yusuf Ramay and Isa Najam.

Jaswal also shared that they are half way through the album and plan to release it in fall 2017 through a national as well as international album tour while the music videos will start coming out Eid-ul-Fitr onwards.

As for the promotion of the album, Jaswal noted, “There’s a proper marketing and PR campaign in place for this along with plenty of BTS footage that I’ll be putting up on my social media accounts from early next month. I’m an artist who still believes in albums and this is my first as Umair Jaswal. Can’t wait to share my album with all of you!”
