Known for his portrayal of an abusive husband Mikael in last year’s drama serial Mann Mayal, Gohar Rasheed has created a niche for himself in a very short period of time. This year the actor is gearing up for the release of two films including Yalghaar and Rangreza, for which he is currently shooting in Karachi. Aside from that, Rasheed is all set to make his debut as a producer with Maidaan for which he has taken veteran actor Noman Ijaz on board.
“He has a presence and for cinema you need that,” Rasheed told Instep why he chose Ijaz for his film. “He is versatile as well as a brilliant performer. I found him to be a perfect fit for the role. The demand of the character is somebody who’s a little elderly looking, like in the age bracket of Nomi bhai. There were few actors who were keen to do this role but since day one I was clear about it that Noman Ijaz should do this character. He is a character-actor and can transform himself. He will give his time and devotion to the character and that matters the most for me.”
The actor also shared that Maidaan has a very inspiring and motivational story which is based on a true event. It’s a commercial film with all the necessary elements – “It’s going to be a complete package,” he said. You can read the full Gohar Rasheed interview in Instep on Sunday.
